Trinità dei Monti is one of the most photographed churches in Rome. It offers a splendid view of the rooftops of the Eternal City and one of its most beautiful squares: Piazza di Spagna. The first part of the church was built between 1502 and 1519 in the Gothic style using stones from the French city of Narbonne, at the express wish of King Louis XII. It was consecrated in 1585 by Pope Sixtus V. In front of Trinità dei Monti, towards the end of the 18th century, Pope Pius VI had the Sallustian Obelisk erected—the last of the great obelisks built in papal Rome, made during the Roman era, which imitated the Egyptian obelisks.
